PREVALENCE OF BALANCE & MOBILITY DISORDERS
Chronic balance disorders significantly impact a large percentage of the population. In most cases, they are rarely the result of a single disease. Rather, balance disorders typically are a result of multiple factors. Further, balance dysfunction is not isolated to problems in one sensory system, such as vestibular pathology. The contributing components in balance control are discussed under Balance Control.
Clinical research has clearly demonstrated that a broad spectrum of patients can benefit from comprehensive balance and mobility programs. To fully understand the problem and its potential resolution, however, it is necessary to recognize some of the patient populations that typically manifest dizziness and/or balance problems.
